Working Principle

A surge valve is a specially designed check valve with a hinged disc (or "gate") inside.Normal Flow: When the medium (water) flows into the valve inlet, pressure pushes the disc open, allowing flow.

Reverse Shutoff: When the medium attempts to flow back, or when the ship rolls or pitches, causing the liquid level to change, the returning water quickly pushes the disc back into the seat. The pressure of the medium and the weight of the disc tightly close the valve, effectively preventing backflow.

Main Functions and Features

Automatic One-Way Check: Requires no external operation, relying on the fluid's own dynamics and mechanical structure to achieve unidirectional flow.Surge Backflow Prevention: A core function, ensuring the safety of a ship's ballast water system, bilge water system, cooling water system, etc., in adverse sea conditions.Low Flow Resistance: The disc opens flexibly, creating minimal resistance to the flow.Easy Maintenance: The valve cover is typically removable, facilitating inspection and underwater replacement of internal components (such as the disc and seals).Reliable sealing: The valve disc sealing surface is usually made of rubber (such as nitrile rubber NBR, EPDM) or a combination of metal + rubber to ensure tightness when closing.
